Water available to those under boil advisory
Water available to those under boil advisory in Princeton CHARLESTON, W.Va., November 2, 2008 -- Because of a service disruption in the Princeton area and subsequent boil water advisory, which remains in effect until further notice, West Virginia American Water has stationed a water buffalo, which is a large portable water tank, in the affected area for customers to get water if necessary. The water buffalo is located in the parking lot behind Princeton Community Hospital. The boil water advisory is in effect for the communities west of Athens Crossroads, extending to the Black Oak and Lashmeet areas. Those customers should bring water used for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth to a full boil for at least one minute and then let it cool before use. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be present in the water. West Virginia American Water also recommends the following steps:
Throw away beverages and ice cubes if made with tap water; Keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking; Do not swallow water while you are showering or bathing; Provide pets with boiled water after cooling; Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water; most home water filters will not provide adequate protection from microorganisms; Use only boiled water to treat minor injuries.
Once the system recovers, West Virginia American Water will be collecting additional water quality samples in the area of the outage.
